The mountaineers paid a courtesy call to President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, who hailed them as "inspirations of courage and daring." Despite the support coming from rival television networks during their conquest of Mt. Everest, Romeo Garduce and partners Leo Oracion and Erwin Emata got together in the Palace on Wednesday bringing the message of teamwork and unity.
Oracion said they were saddened by the "battle of the networks." He further said that they came to Everest to show unity. Emata said there was really no race to the summit and that at one point, all three of them were communicating during their climb. Garduce said it was "inherent" for climbers to display teamwork during a trek, especially in an expedition as difficult as Mount Everest. After Mt. Everest, the three said they were looking forward to more expeditions. Garduce said he might try cross-country skiing, while Emata and Oracion said their team was preparing to trek the north and south side of Mount Everest.
